Igor Fishelev: Education and Career Path

Igor Fishelev graduated from Ural State University with a degree in physics and continued his studies in the postgraduate program at the Institute of Metal Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This scientific background equipped him with analytical thinking, a systematic approach, and deep technological expertise, which later became the foundation of his entrepreneurial career.

In 1991, amid Russia’s early market reforms, he co-founded Link, one of the first publicly traded companies in the region. As Vice President, he managed investment projects and oversaw foreign economic activities, gaining valuable experience in navigating regulatory shifts and establishing international trade relationships.

In 1994, Fishelev joined Mitsui & Co. Ltd., a leading Japanese trading company, and a year later became head of its Yekaterinburg office. He coordinated export and import operations across multiple sectors, from raw materials to industrial equipment, building strong international partnerships and mastering cross-cultural business practices.

Drawing on this experience, he founded Unimatic in 2000, focusing on supplying industrial machinery and engineering solutions for the machine-building sector. The company expanded its capabilities, partnered with leading global manufacturers, and established a strong presence in the Russian and CIS markets.

In 2018, Igor Fishelev transferred full control of Unimatic to his son, Oleg Fishelev, completing a planned generational transition. Since then, he has concentrated on mentoring tech startups and supporting innovative projects, sharing his expertise to foster growth and innovation in the high-tech industry.
