Trade Show Essentials: What to Bring

Attending a trade show or holding an exhibit at one is a great way to network and explore new business opportunities. One of the key factors for having a successful and enjoyable trade show experience is to be prepared and have everything you need. This blog will give you an idea of the essentials to bring as a business and an attendee.

Business Essentials

If you are a company looking to hold an exhibit at a trade show, you must have the materials to uphold professionalism and be able to engage with leads as best as possible. This includes:

  • Business Cards & Signage: Make sure to bring business cards to give to attendees so they can have your contact information. It’s also a great way to stay in the back of their mind and remember your company whenever they see it. Signage allows them to identify certain information they may be looking for at your booth.
  • Office Supplies: Having supplies such as pens, paper, sticky notes, scissors, staplers, etc., can prepare you for different tasks you may have to do. For example, you may want to add a sticky note or staple something together for a specific person that interacts with your booth.
  • Charger: If you run a presentation off of a computer or take social media content on your phone, be sure to bring a charger so you won’t have to deal with a device losing power.
  • Water & Snacks: Trade shows usually include long hours of standing and talking with people, which can take a lot of energy. Make sure to stock up on water and snacks to fuel yourself and stay hydrated throughout the day so you can perform your best.
  • Promo Items: Bring items that can be given away through giveaways, contests, or simply by signing up for a newsletter. This can include water bottles, pens, keychains, etc. that can also be branded. This will help attendees engage with your portable trade show booth displays and have something to remember you by.
  • Presentation Materials: Whether you are giving a physical demo or online presentation, make sure you have the right things to make it a seamless and engaging experience.

Attendee Essentials

If you are an attendee, here are some things you should pack to get the most out of your experience:

  • Backpack: A backpack is essential to carry around everything you need. Unlike exhibitors, you will be walking around more and will need a means to transport all of your belongings.
  • Notepad and Pen: Bring paper and something to write with to take notes about certain exhibits. You can write names, numbers, things that stood out to you, etc. It can be hard to recall all of the information you took in that day, so writing it down can help you remember.
  • Business Cards: Whether or not you are attending a trade show as a business professional, it is important to have a card that has your contact information so you can network and exchange it with companies.
  • Water & Snacks: Just like the exhibitors, trade shows consist of long days that include long periods of standing, walking, and interacting. Make sure you have water and snacks to keep up your energy throughout the day.
  • Comfortable Shoes: Prepare your feet and body for the long day by wearing comfortable shoes. Don’t underestimate how much walking and standing you will do and pick the shoes you know won’t be bothering you.
  • Charger: If you use your phone to take notes or pictures, make sure you bring a charger, preferably portable, so you don’t have to worry about it dying or asking someone else for one.

Conclusion

Being prepared for the trade show ahead can save you a headache and make your experience less stressful. Consider these essentials to bring to your next trade show.
