New challenges require new solutions. Hybrid vehicles have arrived to replace traditional internal combustion engine cars and electric vehicles. It’s a perfect combination. For short trips or city driving, you can run on electricity and protect the environment. But if you need to travel long distances, where charging might be a concern, you can switch to gasoline. One of the most striking hybrid solutions is the Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid – powerful, stylish, and eco-friendly.
Volkswagen Touareg R – Stylish Exterior, Comfortable Interior
The Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid is an all-wheel-drive crossover and the fastest version in the lineup. We are used to the idea that the most powerful models come equipped with the most powerful internal combustion engines. Those days are gone. Now, the flagship model in the series is a hybrid.
The familiar exterior of the Volkswagen Touareg, detailed on the Technonws website, differs in the special R-version with a unique body color, original wheels, and powerful 400-millimeter brakes (front), along with mandatory R logos.
Inside, we find seats with a familiar shape from previous models, but with beautiful diamond stitching and blue threading. The steering wheel is adorned with the letter R on the central spoke. The dashboard, featuring two large displays, has silver metallic inserts. The interior combines a modern “techno” style with the luxury of a premium car.
What is certainly worth noting is the car’s comfort.
There’s plenty of space for the driver and passengers, and the front seats offer convenient adjustments, even including massage functions. Rear passengers are treated to an adjustable bench, heated seats, and a separate climate control system. An interesting feature in the trunk is the hidden Samsung lithium-ion battery with a nominal capacity of nearly 18 kWh. It is so skillfully integrated that it’s hardly noticeable, leaving the trunk spacious and functional.
Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid – What’s Inside?
The Volkswagen Touareg’s body is made of 48% aluminum, making it both lightweight and strong. It features all-wheel drive with a full-fledged Torsen differential and independent air suspension (ground clearance ranging from 148 to 258 mm). Of course, attention should be paid to the 3-liter EA 839 turbocharged engine with 340 horsepower, accelerating this powerful crossover to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.7-5.8 seconds. It consumes about 13 liters of fuel per 100 km in city driving, which is not much for such a powerful vehicle.
In addition to the gasoline engine, the Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid comes with a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor powered by a robust battery. The manufacturer promises a range of up to 47 km according to the WLTP cycle. The battery can be charged while driving through regenerative braking or when the combustion engine works as a generator, or via an external power source. The new Volkswagen Touareg can be charged from a regular household outlet. Full battery charging takes 7-8 hours, but with fast charging, it only takes 2.5-3 hours.
The hybrid Volkswagen Touareg also boasts many cool features that make driving more comfortable:
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC) radar is now used to regulate deceleration and regenerative braking intensity.
- Improved display graphics.
- The central touchscreen display in the driving settings section includes a hybrid management window where you can set the desired battery charge level and switch modes – electric drive “E-MODE” or hybrid.
All of this makes driving the Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid as simple and convenient as possible.
Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid – To Buy or Not?
The Volkswagen Touareg R eHybrid is a true flagship, combining cutting-edge innovative technologies, high power, and top-of-the-line configurations. It is a car for maximalists who want everything at once in one vehicle. If you are one of those people and are willing to pay a premium for your desires, the Volkswagen Touareg R is just for you.
